therapeutic services for schools
WHO AM I?
Hi! My name is Lorna Sillitoe and I am the founder of Minds Eye therapeutic services for schools. I am a qualified social worker registered to Social Work England.
My work with vulnerable children/young people and their families identifies a clear correlation between a child’s/young person’s ability to reach their full potential and their emotional wellbeing. This is by no means a new understanding and has been evidenced through research for some time. However seeing the impact of this first hand alongside my absolute belief in a child centred therapeutic interventions made me re-evaluate my chosen career path, leading me to where I am today - providing therapeutic interventions to children and young people through schools.
PHE(2014)”Research evidence shows that education and health are closely linked. So promoting the health and wellbeing of pupils and students within schools and colleges has the potential to improve their educational outcomes and their health and wellbeing outcomes.”
When working in child protection I gained a greater understanding of the presenting issues around attachment difficulties and trauma, building on knowledge gained at university, however I struggled with the lack of time social workers had to work directly with children/young people and families.
I then moved to fostering social work, becoming a supervising social worker, supporting foster carers in their role parenting looked after children. This gave me a further understanding of attachment and trauma from the parent/carer perspective. I expanded my learning in PACE parenting and Theraplay®, to support the foster carers.
Most recently I have worked in therapeutic family support. Here I have continued to expand my knowledge of therapeutic interventions for children and young people. I am now a proud practitioner in Drawing and Talking Therapy, have completed my counselling skills alongside bibliotherapy training and I am also certified in Mindfulness for children.
Whilst continuing with my passion of supporting the wellbeing and life chances of children/young people I plan to become certified in Play Therapy and complete a Masters in counselling and Psychotherapy.
If you would like more information about me or the therapeutic services I offer do not hesitate to contact me, I'd love to hear from you.
